SCIENCE IS FUN! – Shannon Dersham’s seventh-grade Life Science class learned studying chemistry can be entertaining, especially when blackberries are involved. From left, Ellie Weston, Emma Hendrickson, Natalee Hall, and Paisley Ferguson have to laugh as their secret messages are revealed.
This Life Science class experimented on how to see secret messages. The objective was to learn more about chemical changes. The kids started by writing a message with their fingers with wet baking soda. Then, when the paper was dry, they applied the pigment from blackberries which reacted with the baking soda to reveal their secret word. The blackberries and baking soda crystals created a new substance that exposed the students' writing.
