Glencoe High Student Council is hosting the District meeting for their north central organization today. Opening ceremonies began with a warm-up exercise led by Morgan Matheson and Nola Ross (in pink and white at the right in the first photo).
They introduced Glencoe Principal Brady Maxwell who addressed the crowd. He wished them well and hoped they take the leadership skills they learn here today home to their own schools and communities. Leadership breakout sessions will be held for all attendees across the entire campus. Two hundred area students from Ponca City to south of Stillwater were registered to attend and hosting the group is an honor that GHS STUCO and it's advisor Callie Duncan have worked hard to earn. Members of the GPS administration met with representatives of the two companies which will oversee construction and renovations at the elementary and high schools this year for a ceremonial ground-breaking Monday. LD Kerns Construction will be responsible for building the designs of Renaissance Architecture, LLC.
Residents of the Glencoe school district passed a bond issue in February to fund a variety of improvements at both schools without raising taxes. All parties hope that the construction will be completed before school opens next August for the 2025-26 year. Availability and delivery of steel could be a factor in whether the schedule can be met but Kern representatives were optimistic.
The elementary school will get a complete renovation of the flattop building with a new roof and three new classrooms and a teacher workroom which could be converted into a classroom if the need arises. The high school will see a significant addition to the north end of the building providing ADA restrooms and a special needs restroom with exclusive access from the existing special education classroom. A circle drive from Lone Chimney Road will approach a covered entrance and vestibule and a multi-purpose commons area inside.
Joining the ceremony were, from left, Pete Edwards, Eric Goodfellow and David Kerns of Kerns Construction, Elementary Principal Lindsay Bailey, High School Principal Brady Maxwell , GPS Superintendent Jay Reeves, and Misty Buchanan and Mike Hyatt, both with Renaissance Architecture.
